You just got Saved; you are a new babe in Christ, as they say, and it's all wonderfull and exciting. Of course your wondering what's next. How about learning a little about faith? You are going to need a lot of it if you want to become an unfaltering and dedicated Christian. All your life you have heard about faith, and now you need to understand what it really is and how it fits into your new life--your new life with Jesus Christ.
To have faith is to believe and hope in something that you can't see or touch. This explanation is from the Bible. You must put your trust in God now, and understand the idea that faith will be an important and vital element in your life as a Christian. The scriptures say that, "without faith, it is impossible to please God." Please him in a sense that you allow his will to become your will. It's not easy--your sins are forgiven, but you are still a sinner. There are a lot of things that are going to work against you, but that's where faith comes in. For starters, that moment you became Saved, God gave you a "measure of faith", a certain amount to begin with, and it's up to you to let it stagnate, or grow, or die out.
Reading and hearing the Word, praying for wisdom and guidance, are some of the ways to increase your faith; however, keep in mind that God will test your faith from time to time--no matter how much you pray or know the Bible. He does that to see how far you are willing to go with him. There is plenty of scripture about faith in God; some verses are easy to understand, and others take time, experience, and wisdom to fully understand their meaning. One simple verse states that "Faith without works is dead." This verse is easy to read and comprehend, but to live it is another story. Praying for others strengthens your faith; there's a story in the Bible about how King Solomon's prayers were answered because he prayed for his people and not for himself. Going to church regularly will edify and uplift you and provide a way for you to exercise your faith. You are exercising your faith when you go to church to worship God in spirit, pray to him with the support of others, gain knowledge and understanding of the Holy Scriptures, and have fellowship with other Christians.
Whatever you do, keep your mind on the prize; you are in a race now--the finish line being Heaven. Let God lead your life. Have faith.
