The Father's House: Providing a New Generation of Worship in New Bern

When you pull up and hear the music booming from the building, The Father's House looks and sounds like any other night club--that is until you walk through the front door. Upon entering it is apparent that this night club is different from any other night club most New Bernians have ever been in before. The front room has a book shelf with various well-known authors, a couch, end table and chairs for relaxing, chatting or just quiet reflection--when there is not a band playing, of course. Stroll into the open main area and the bar, stage, foosball table, pool table, air hockey table, dart board, scattered tables and chairs are visible.

You may be thinking to yourself, what exactly is The Father's House? Pastor Bob Wagner says, "The Father's House is a ministry-based center that wants to have a place for 18-30 years old to call their own. Most of them are too young for the kid stuff and not old enough for the adult stuff. Therefore, this generation is floundering looking for a place to belong."

The Father's House believes they can be that place for this floundering generation to find the acceptance they are so desperately seeking. Friday, March 5th, was the official grand opening where The Father's House attendees rocked to the sound of DECYFER, a Christian alternative rock band (http://www.decyfer.org). Pastor Bob was overheard saying, "Grand opening night was for the young people and the music was going to be loud."

Even though I was not one of those young people the music was definitely enjoyed and in this reporter's opinion it sounded great. CCC alumni and current CCC students were present at the Grand Opening and had the following to say about The Father's House.

Lauran Holton: "I think The Father's House ROCKS! It's very cool and they have done a lot of work. The place looks great! This place is going to be AWESOME!"

Kristyl Kent: "I am really glad that New Bern has a Christian place to come to without all the pressures of sex and drugs. A place where you can have good wholesome fun and not have to worry about what others think of you."

Brent: "I think this place is OFF THE HOOK! It ROCKS!"

So, whether you want to come out when there is a live band, or just come hang-out and play some pool, The Father's House is the newest place in New Bern to do just that.

"Call it a coffeehouse, call it a Christian night club, call it a ministry center... call it what you want... but come out and enjoy Faith based Fun, and Fellowship" (from The Father's House website.).
