Around these parts, it's hot. Not just hot, but stinkin' hot. I got the rare opportunity to spend a couple of hours outside today in that futile (for me, anyway) attempt to get a tan, and it didn't take long for me to start sweating like a pig. Aside from the heat, though, the month of June has been pretty good.
June kicked off for me with an awesome men's ministry conference with Steve Ghalager of Pure Life Ministries (http://www.purelifeministries.org). Steve's message of sexual purity really unlocked an entire month of revival at my church. The very next week was Vacation Bible School. This year's theme was "Lava Lava Island: Where Jesus's Love Flows." Talk about inspiring. We had 178 kids show up one night, and more than 100 gave their lives to Jesus on Thursday of that week. I got to run media for the praise and worship and it was a real honor to see all those kids singing to Jesus.
I also joined a small group at church. For those who don't know what that is, don't worry, it's not a cult thing. Small groups are simply that, small groups of people who meet on a regular basis to pray and talk about the stuff going on in their lives and gain Biblical perspective from those in the group. Now, as dry as that sounds on screen, it really is a powerful ministry when handled with seriousness. I can practically feel chains of bondage breaking every week I meet the guys in my group.
All in all, I'd say the month of June has been filled with more spiritual growth than I've experienced in years. I look forward to July as I anticipate even more of God's work in my life, but I do so with a slight twinge of hesitation. June went by so fast, and pretty soon I'll be another year older, and before we know it, Christmas will be here. I mean, time is just flying by. The clock is ticking away, the pendulum is swinging, and there's a world full of lost souls who need Jesus. Time is running out. All the signs are here.
I hope you guys enjoy your July, but take time to share Jesus's love with somebody this month. After all, summer is gonna be over before you even know it, and wouldn't we all be blessed if we could say we led somebody to Christ this summer? Now that would be something worth breaking out the charcoal grill for!
